scuba diving procedures

Live aboard scuba diving is absolutely the best way to dive and diving has never been easier than from the comfort of Kararu's live aboard. Following is practical information about diving procedures while on board.

dive procedures

Diving from Kararu Dive Voyages liveaboard is from one of two 6 m by 2.50 m unsinkable aluminium tenders. The seating capacity fits 8 divers comfortably.

A simple back-roll entry is used to enter the water with a stainless steel ladder to exit. Each tender is manned by two competent crew members whom are familiar with the dive sites, diving and hydrographic equipment and emergency First Aid.

Divers only need to set up their gear one time at the beginning of each trip. Each scuba diver has his own individual dive station complete with under seat locker for storage. The dive deck's 300 litre x 300 bar (5000 psi)air bank system ensures that tank filling is done with speed and in silence.

Guests can choose to dive on air or NITROX.

Crew members will assist you into your dive gear prior to the dive, carry your tank to the tender (if desired), and help you into and out of the water.

A detailed dive briefing is made by one of our western dive masters prior to each dive.

Dive time is unlimited. However, Kararu does not encourage decompression diving as most dive destinations are a long way from the nearest recompression chamber.

Irian Jaya - closest recompression chamber, Darwin, Australia

Komodo - closest recompression chamber, Bali, Indonesia

Alor - closest recompression chamber Bali, Indonesia

Helicopter medi-vac service is available 24 hours in case of emergencies. Please ensure that your insurance is up to date.

The live aboard trips offer 3 - 5 dives per day.

The vessel is equipped with 30 Aluminium 12 litre Tanks

Adapters for DIN - INT connections are available.

After the last dive of the liveaboard trip, all gear will be washed and rinsed by Kararu's 19 crew member.

Rental Equipment is available.

Minor repairs on common scuba diving brands may be done on board. Spare parts are also for sale on board. Since most dive destinations are a long way from the nearest dive shop, Kararu recommends you check your scuba diving gear prior to departure from your home base.

One 50 Liter Tank and one Portable Set of Oxygen, as well as Medic First Aid equipment is on stand by in case of an emergency.
